Background
Certified Equine Nutrition Advisor 1 - Legacy Equine Nutrition Program
I study traditional and holistic nutrition, following respected colleagues Dr. Rachel Mottet and Dr. Juliet Getty ensuring that I have a well-rounded view of nutritional options.
I have had a love affair with horses for over five decades. That little girl who fell in love with Black Beauty and Misty never outgrew it. Every chance I could find to be around horses, I took it. From riding lessons as a kid to driving our neighbors with horses crazy, I couldn’t get enough of being around them. The day I bought my first horse Lucy, was a dream come true. Now I want to be the best horse mom I can to Tripp by ensuring his health. And I always want to continue learning about horses, nutrition, training, and anything that has to do with them.
Additionally, I have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Masters in Business Administration. The past 30 years I have enjoyed being a Communications Professional along with spending 12 years as a College Instructor. I love helping people, learning and sharing knowledge.
Philosophy
I value the synergy between body, mind and environment in both equine nutrition and training. My feeding philosophy is based on nutrient balancing and feed types, formulated around the science of energy, protein, vitamins and minerals. But I have also studied holistic equine nutrition.
I believe that a horse’s health is influenced not only by what they eat, but also by their lifestyle, physical conditions, emotional state and surroundings. My assessment considers each horse’s unique circumstances, and I am happy to consult or work in conjunction with your vet. Horses are very sensitive creatures and therefore simply just assessing their feed is not enough. Outside factors do contribute to their well-being. I have witnessed this firsthand. These things will be taken into consideration when I make my recommendations.
Things I Consider
horse’s balanced well-being needs
stress factors
forage-based strategies
natural horse behaviors and needs
horse’s preferences
I want to help horse owners understand the purpose behind the ingredients in the feeds and why a supplement may or may not be necessary. We will develop a program specific for your individual horse’s needs. I am happy to consult and work along side your veterinarian if your horse requires a team approach. No matter their needs, I will support you every step of the way.
I work independently of any feed company and will provide unbiased feedback and recommendations.
